SUMMARY:
Houston based, UHNW family office client seeks a strong Tax Director for their growing team.  This role is open due to a retirement by the Tax Director.

DESCRIPTION:
Our client is a Houston based, established family office that works fully in person in central Houston.  This family invests in various industries including  real estate, PE investments, ranching and  oil and gas.  Additionally there is a significant family foundation. This family has a beloved and long time Tax Director who is retiring after many years of service, and they need to find a qualified replacement.  


This is an opportunity to prepare complex returns, and  work effectively with external CPAs.   You’ll own the end to end tax lifecycle—from quarterly payroll filings to complex tax returns.  This role manages will help with high level accounting functions in the off tax seasons.
 

What you’ll own
  • Full spectrum compliance
    • 1065 partnership returns & K1s for 20 plus entities across 20+ states
    • 1120S Scorp returns including multistate returns and and final/short year filings after entity conversions or terminations
    • Foundations & trusts (990PF, 990T, 1041) plus annual 1099, W2s, 940, 941 & Texas Workforce Commission reports
  • Entity events & restructuring
    Lead tax work for partnership conversions, Delaware terminations, cash distributions, and final returns.
  • Strategic planning
    Model tax impacts, identify savings, and guide partners on timing of income, distributions, and investments.
  • Process leadership
    Oversee QuickBooks data flow into individual returns, evaluate outsourcing partners for efficiency, and implement tax technology automation.
  • Team & stakeholder management
    Mentor staff, coordinate with external advisors, and present findings to leadership.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • 10+ years progressive tax experience with heavy partnership and pass-through exposure; strong compliance foundation, family office experience and/or public accounting background.
  • Texas CPA (or JD/LLM).
  • Track record steering complex conversions, winddowns, and multi-entity planning.
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks and leading tax software; passion for process improvement.
  • Friendly, approachable personality and desire to work toward common goals.
