Our client is a Downtown Houston energy company seeking a Senior Tax Accountant for their growing team.  This is an added position due to new growth and has a flexible, hybrid work schedule.  Great opportunity before busy season!


Our client is a friendly, growth focused organization that treats employees like family.  This is a role that will work closely with return preparation and review.  This will prepare federal and state returns and will work closely with provisions.  Specifically:

This position will be responsible for preparation of i) all aspects of the tax compliance process, (ii) assistance with all tax functions, including indirect taxes and tax audits, iii) assistance with the execution of tax planning initiatives, and iv) the preparation of quarterly and annual ASC 740 and UTP calculations and analysis. This position reports directly to the Tax Manager.

Essential Job Functions
  • Preparation of federal and state income tax compliance for the corporate entities
  • Preparation of quarterly and annual ASC 740 and UTP calculations and analysis
  • Assist with the execution and implementation of tax planning initiatives, as well as tax process improvements
  • Assist with defending tax filing positions in audits by taxing jurisdictions
  • Assist with tax projections and modeling
  • Proactively minimize the Company’s tax liabilities via identifying, researching, and recommending tax planning, incentives and structuring at the federal, state and local levels
  • Proactively stay abreast of new and proposed tax legislation that could impact the Company’s tax liability, including determining and projecting the impact on the Company, as needed
  • Preparation of all tax-related journal entries, account reconciliations, account analysis and financial statement variances
  • Preparation of all tax-related disclosures in SEC filings
  • Assist with reviewing internal controls to determine if controls are sufficient and review for changes, as needed; participate in all controls testing by both internal and external auditors
  • Be a key point of contact to resolve all tax-related issues, both within the Accounting department and across the organization
  • Assist with tax-related special projects and questions, as needed

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required
  • 5+ years of Corporate Tax experience, including Tax Accounting desirable
  • Public accounting experience in tax strongly desired, industry tax experience is a plus as well.
  • Oil and Gas Accounting Experience desirable
  • Experienced technical background in federal, state and partnership taxation.  Provisions desirable.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and research tools.
  • Strong analytical and technical skills; detail oriented.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact with all levels of the organization.
  • Strong organizational skills and work process orientation necessary; ability to prioritize workload and deliver results.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be an independent self-starter with a high level of confidence and a critical approach to matters.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters in Tax, or similar advanced degree
  • Experience in a large public accounting firm strongly preferred
  • Plus a Minimum of 2 years of experience in a large corporate tax department
  • Active CPA certification or progress toward certification
  • MLP experience desirable
