Summary Description:  Our client is a premier and long-standing real estate company in Central Houston. The company has experienced exciting growth and is looking to add a Senior Tax Accountant to their stellar team. As a Senior Tax Accountant, you will assist with domestic and international compliance of real estate projects held within a REIT; prepare and review domestic tax returns and compliance for US and international partnerships and REITs; prepare ASC 740 calculations; review provider prepared returns as well as preparing other tax elections, filings and applications; assist with tax research and special projects.

 

 

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
 
  • Prepare and review US federal tax compliance for US and international partnerships, disregarded entities and REITs holding real estate projects
  • Prepare quarterly analysis/monitoring of the REIT income and asset tests
  • Read and summarize leases and service contracts from a tax perspective
  • Prepare ASC 740 calculations for international projects
  • Assist with international and domestic acquisitions including review of tax models and review for REIT tax issues
  • Prepare/review year-end E&P and Tax calculations of the REITs (completed in mid-January)
  • Assist in coordinating and managing the information flow internally and with our external service providers
  • Review provider prepared returns
  • Prepare other tax elections, filings and applications; respond to notices
  • Prepare four-year tax estimates
  • Assist with partner inquiries
  • Prepare memos and documentation
  • Perform tax research for federal, state and international issues
  • Issues include Subchapter K, FIRPTA, Transfer pricing, foreign withholding, ASC 740 documentation, REITs/TRSs and all related issues
  • Assist Tax Manager and Senior Tax Manager with special projects and tax research related to a Real Estate Investment Trust, as needed

 

Experience: 
  • Three or more years professional accounting experience
  • Public accounting experience strongly preferred
     

Education:
  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Business Administration or related discipline
  • CPA preferred

 

Skills:
  • Perform numerical and financial calculations
  • Analyze and interpret various types of data in order to draw conclusions and solve problems
  • Familiarity with tax research software (RIA, BNA, etc.) and tax preparation software
  • Strong interpersonal and supervisory skills
  • Compose business letters, expositions, summaries, and reports, using proper format, punctuation, grammar,
          diction and style
  • Solid experience with international tax and underlying principles/concepts
  • Experience with the REIT tax rules a plus
  • Exchange ideas, information, and opinions with others to formulate and/or arrive jointly at
          decisions, conclusions, or solutions

 

 

 

 

 

 

Physical abilities/Working Conditions:
  • Work indoors approximately 100% of the time
  • Ability to lift general ledgers, files, records, and computer paper (approximately 5-35lbs)
  • Work overtime as business needs deem appropriate
