Our Greenway energy client is seeking a Senior Payroll Accountant to support an upcoming project at their corporate office. The Senior Payroll Accountant will serve as a key contributor in the implementation of our new Workday payroll system, participating in configuration, testing, and data validation while driving process improvements and efficiencies in payroll operations.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee end-to-end payroll processing for multiple payroll cycles, including time and attendance, off-cycle payments, bonuses, and deductions.
Perform payroll accounting functions, including preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial schedules in compliance with GAAP and internal policies.
Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes by preparing and reviewing payroll-related financial entries and reports.
Conduct variance analysis and ensure the accuracy of payroll-related general ledger accounts.
Lead and support the implementation of the Workday payroll system, including involvement in system testing, configuration, and post-implementation optimization.
Collaborate cross-functionally with HR, Accounting, and Finance teams to ensure consistent, accurate payroll data integration and reporting.
Manage expense report processing through Concur, including accounting entries and compliance with company policy.
Provide audit support by preparing accurate documentation and responding to inquiries from internal and external auditors.
Identify, recommend, and implement process improvements to enhance payroll accounting efficiency and accuracy.
Maintain detailed process documentation, workflows, and standard operating procedures.
Assist with special projects and perform other duties as needed.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Minimum of 4 years of progressive accounting experience, with a strong emphasis on payroll accounting.
In-depth understanding of payroll processes, payroll tax compliance, and related general ledger accounting practices.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, formulas, etc.).
Proven ability to analyze, interpret, and reconcile financial data with a high degree of accuracy.
Excellent communication skills—both written and verbal—with the ability to convey complex information clearly.
Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining data integrity.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in a high-growth, multi-entity corporate environment.
Working knowledge of Workday, particularly payroll modules and system implementation projects.
Familiarity with ADP Workforce Now.
Experience with Concur Expense Management, including administrative setup and maintenance.
Knowledge of equity-based compensation and related accounting principles.
Exposure to public company requirements, including Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance.
