  Company Overview
Our client is a publicly traded early stage energy company that is focused on supporting the “Net Zero CO2” energy transition in Australia and Asia-Pacific through developing low CO2 unconventional gas resources in the Northern Territory, Australia. They are traded on the NYSE, and they seek a Financial Reporting Manager to join their North American team located in Houston, Texas. 


The Manager of Financial Reporting is a critical role in ensuring that their US financial reporting follows U.S. GAAP. This position will report to the Corporate Controller in Sydney, Australia and will be located in Houston, TX.
  Job Duties and Responsibilities:  
  • Provide technical accounting interpretation of relevant accounting standards, guidelines and external reporting requirements and provide advice to key stakeholders;
  • Document technical accounting conclusions to support accounting positions taken
  • Develop, review and/or refine accounting policies and guidelines;
  • Assist in implementing and maintaining internal control processes and procedures for SOX 404 compliance.
  • Assist the Corporate Controller with the preparation of the quarterly and annual financial statements;
  • Ensure the development of and maintenance of robust financial reporting, analysis systems and processes;
  • Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, contractual obligations and company policies;
  • Support the Corporate Controller, CFO, Investor Relations, and Company Secretary in drafting of financial reporting activities and reports to the Board;
  • Work with internal and external partners to identify and take advantage of any relevant tax incentives, grants and credits;
  • Establish effective communication channels with the senior management team, as well as external auditors;
  • Lead the US audit as directed;
  • All other associated and ancillary responsibilities as requested including basic US tax and insurance;
  Preferred Minimum Candidate Requirements:
  • Minimum of ten years’ experience as a Manager/Senior Accountant/Team Leader in a corporate accounting function;
  • Experience in the oil & gas industry, with prior US public accounting or SEC reporting experience required;
  • Prior Big 4 or National Accounting firm experience preferred;
  • Minimum bachelors’ degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required;
  • CPA  is required;
  • Previous experience serving in a financial reporting function for a public US company with foreign subsidiaries is advantageous;
  • Significant experience in preparing the consolidated financial statements under U.S. GAAP;
  • Relevant experience driving initiatives to improve financial systems, processes, and procedures;
  • Must be aware of relevant US accounting legislation, particularly in relation to publicly listed company operations;
  • Must possess strong oral and written communication and problem-solving skills and have the ability to operate independently;
  • Team oriented with strong organizational skills, have the ability to multi task and prioritize projects;
Advanced skills using Microsoft products and various accounting and payables software. Experience with SAP and Workiva is advantageous
