FINANCIAL REPORTING ANALYST
DOWNTOWN
9/80 SCHEDULE
OVERVIEW

A growing Houston-based middle market oil and gas-focused PE firm is adding a new position to its Accounting and Finance organization to oversee its portfolio investments. The Reporting Analyst is a newly created position that will work directly with the Financial Reporting Manager.

Seeking an accounting professional with external audit experience (1-2 years) with clients, ideally with upstream oil and gas experience, private equity, or financial services. The ideal profile would include industry financial reporting experience (SEC experience not required) and upstream oil and gas exposure. CPA is optional.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Compliance Reporting
  • Prepare monthly reporting packages for stakeholders in different types of financing structures.
  • Prepare monthly flux analysis.
  • Prepare quarterly reporting package.
  • Manage year-end compliance requests.
  • Other ad hoc tasks, as assigned.

Financial Reporting
  • Prepare an external reporting package to be used internally and externally by investors, banking institutions, etc.
  • Prepare and review monthly financial statements to close the month. Ensure accuracy, record transactions, and ensure compliance with GAAP reporting standards.
  • Coordinate with operations to deliver quarterly ESG compliance after the end of the quarter. The operational work is outsourced; we will just need to coordinate the timing of the deliverable.
  • Research accounting treatment of transactions and updated standards, as needed.
  • Maintain relationships with auditors and the company’s outsourced Big4 tax firm.
  • Prepare support for annual financial audit.
  • Prepare support for royalty audits.
  • Other ad hoc tasks, as assigned.

Banking
  • Manage relationships with banks.
  • Prepare a weekly forecast of cash flows based on current assumptions, revenue projections, and cost predictions.
  • Work with reservoir engineering and marketing groups to prepare an analysis of production assumptions and estimates.

Process Improvement
  • Continuously improve processes to enhance effectiveness and efficiency in financial operations within the clinical sphere.

QUALIFICATIONS
 
  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting is required.
  • CPA optional.
  • 1-2 years of external audit experience in Big4, BDO, Grant Thornton, Forvis, CLA, or Baker Tilly is required, ideally with financial services, private equity, or small-cap energy clients. Ideal experience includes an additional year of accounting experience in industry.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills with the ability to learn financial modeling is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex financial information clearly and concisely.
  • Proficient in financial software and advanced knowledge of Excel.
  • Capable of working independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the capacity to interact at all levels.

  • Creative problem-solving ability and sound judgment – taking initiative and responsibility for decisions.
