Job Description
The purpose of this job is to manage the general accounting function and oversee the completion/reconciliation of ledger accounts, closeout tasks, and financial reports for a major energy commodities company.  The company offers bulk fuel products such as biodiesel, gasoline, ethanol, and aviation fuel.

Essential Functions:
  1. Select, coach, train, and develop direct reports to include appraising job performance and conducting performance reviews
  2. Evaluate and make appropriate improvements to internal accounting processes ensuring that practices align with overall company goals
  3. Develop and implement accounting practices and procedures
  4. Perform and oversee general accounting activities including the preparation, maintenance, and reconciliation of ledger accounts and financial statements such as balance sheets and income statements
  5. Prepare and oversee, record, and analyze accounting transactions to ensure the integrity of accounting records for completeness, accuracy and compliance with accepted accounting policies and principles
  6. Provide analytical, reporting and project support to accounting and business leadership.
  7. Respond to ad-hoc financial inquiries by analyzing, summarizing, and interpreting data
  8. Review and recommend modifications to accounting systems, processes, and procedures
  9. Maintain knowledge of new finance/accounting policies and regulations
  10. Compile, consolidate and analyze accounting and finance information to produce financial statements and reports.
  11. Model behaviors that support the company’s common purpose; ensure guests and team members are supported at the highest level.
  12. Ensure all activities are in compliance with rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
  13. Complete other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting required
  • Master’s degree in accounting or business preferred
  • CPA strongly preferred
  • Minimum five years’ experience in accounting or related area required
  • Minimum of two years’ experience managing direct reports
  • Energy commodity accounting experience strongly preferred 
  • "Hands on" ledger accounting experience is required

Specialized Knowledge:
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills required
  • Familiarity with Lawson is a plus
  • Knowledge of Right Angle is a plus
  • Knowledge and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) required
