SUMMARY:
Well established, central Houston based company seeks experienced Controller to $140K + Bonus

 GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Our client is a long standing, Houston based, mid sized organization with more than 50 years of history and success in the Texas market.   This unique and special company has a successful accounting team in multiple locations who are effective and productive.  However, they need a strong, dedicated and supportive leader.  This role combines high level accounting and reporting with management of a great, long standing team.

The company has a hybrid work schedule, however the Controller must be available as needed by the team.
 

Specifically, this role will:
Oversee the financial functions of the company. The Controller will be responsible for putting accounting processes in place, making sure transactions are being posted correctly, and that the company is utilizing their current accounting software efficiently. 

 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Prepare and review monthly reports, financial statements, journal entries, etc.
  • Support annual budget preparation and train managers on software used for budget purpose
  • Assist with scoping of new General Ledger System
  • Identify process automation opportunities and work with perspective consultants
  • Prepare for and supervise the annual financial audit, 401K audit and other insurance audits; assist auditors as needed
  • Review and prepare documentation for annual insurance renewal and annual tax return
  • Maintain chart of accounts and make changes as required
  • Prepare annual property tax rendition
  • Monitor inventory reporting and assist with annual inventory count
  • Evaluate effectiveness of current collection policies & procedures and create methods for increasing collections
  • Investigate & verify financial status of prospective customers and prepare documentation establish credit limits for customer accounts and handle special credit arrangements
  • Review the monthly accruals for accounts payable processing
  • Create methods for increasing cash flow and the invoicing cycle
  • Work with managers throughout the company to ensure everyone has necessary financial information
  • Establish productivity metrics for the accounting team and across the company
  • Prepare and review monthly sales commissions and reports
  • Prepare cash flow analyses and budget variance analyses on a monthly basis
  • Assist with establishing standard work processes and measures of success that support company and departmental objectives.   Work with team to improve processes and develop best practices.
  • Hire, train, develop, coach, mentor, and appraise staff effectively. Take corrective action as necessary on a timely basis and in accordance with company policy. Consult with human resources as appropriate. 
  • Ensure employees have appropriate resources, training and mentoring to perform their jobs.  Foster a learning environment, challenging employees to continually advance their skills and competencies while embracing company values.
  • Establish standard work processes and measures of success that support company and departmental objectives.  Oversee team performance against standards.  Work with team to improve processes and develop best practices.
 

 WORK EXPERIENCE:
 
  • 10 + years of previous accounting experience
  • 5+ years of supervisory experience
  • General Ledger Conversion experience preferred
  • Strong Process Improvement experience preferred
  • Inventory management experience is a plus
 
EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting; Master’s degree in Accounting strongly preferred
  • CPA strongly preferred
  • Advanced excel skills (Macro/V-Look-up/Pivot Tables)
  • Microsoft Dynamics 365 (Financial Reporting) or NetSuite is a plus

  • Track record of building relationships with external customers, vendors & internal customers
  • Superior leadership skills with a history of implementing dramatic positive changes
  • Experience preparing and executing a strategic plan to operate and grow the organization
  • Strong interpersonal skills and excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to deliver a clear message whether the audience in a front-line employee or a senior executive
  • Must possess logical insight
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive employee, customer and cross-functional team relations while holding employees accountable
  • Strong conceptual and problem-solving skills with the ability to handle and solve a variety of complicated problems having a wide range of impact on the operation of the company
  • Ability to make critical business decisions with limited information and time
