SUMMARY:
Contract position for Maternity Leave:  Houston based Financial Services company seeks experienced Senior Accountant/Manager for Corporate financial reporting role – FULLY REMOTE!  3-4 month project, MUST have current SEC reporting experience

DESCRIPTION:
Our client is a well established, long term Houston based company looking for a contract accountant due to a pending maternity leave.  This position is just a contract assignment, not a contract to hire opportunity, but it is fully remote!  The selected candidate will do SEC and financial reporting work for the organization, especially during 3rd quarter filings.  This role is part of the corporate accounting team and will help to prepare month and quarterly consolidated financial schedules and analyses.  This role will prepare account rollforwards, management reports and will support SEC filings as well.  It will report to a Director in the accounting department.  This reporting team is working fully REMOTE, with the exception of a training period in person.   The selected candidate needs to reside in Houston.
 
  • Prepare quarterly income statement and balance sheet account analyses.
  • Prepare consolidation and elimination journal entries.
  • Assist in the preparation of periodic financial statements and footnotes for SEC and standalone external reporting, including schedules to support disclosures contained in such reports, when applicable.
  • Assist in the preparation of quarterly earnings releases and other analyses related to investor relations.
  • Assist in the preparation of accounting memos, checklists and reporting packages relevant to financial reporting and technical accounting.
  • Assist in implementing and maintaining internal financial controls and procedures related to financial reporting.
  • Assist in performing analyses related to acquisitions and significant transactions on an as-needed basis.
  • Assist in implementation of new accounting pronouncements on as needed basis.
  • Liaison with internal and external auditors on an as needed basis.
  • Perform ad hoc tasks related to internal and external reporting.
  • Team up with operations/GL accounting personnel on as needed basis.
  • 40-hour work week that gets extended during quarterly and annual reporting cycles.
  • Other duties as assigned by manager

REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Accounting
  • 3+ years’ of experience of combined public accounting and industry experience in financial accounting, reporting and auditing desired.  (SEC reporting experience is required)
  • CPA licensee or candidate desired. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook and Access; Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel desired
  • Exposure to Form 10-K/10-Q review/preparation, MD&A Analysis, financial accounting and analytics, consolidation and elimination, and complex accounting matters desired
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP required
  • Exposure to audit of controls over financial reporting helpful.
  • Growing understanding of the practical application of US GAAP
  • Strong team player
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, and ability to maintain confidentiality of corporate financial information.
  • Must be able to commit to entire project, which will end around Christmas.
  • Ability to work independently, attention to detail and accuracy, and meeting deadlines highly required.
