Location: Austin, TX

Company Overview:
Our client is a large middle-market private investment firm that makes equity and debt investments in companies in North America and Europe. The firm's equity investment platform focuses on opportunities where it can support senior management to drive rapid growth and performance improvement, with expertise in corporate carve-outs and partnering with families and founders seeking first-time institutional capital.   

Position Overview:
Business Intelligence (“BI”) tools are critical to enabling operational excellence and growth within their portfolio companies.  This role is crucial in driving value creation through improving data availability, structure, and reporting capabilities to support strategic decision-making across the portfolio. The ideal candidate will be responsible for assisting in the development and maintenance of interactive dashboards and underlying data architecture for seamless reporting and analysis.

Responsibilities include:
  • Help drive data strategy and product as it relates to data ingestion, warehousing, automation, governance, and BI reporting in collaboration with cross-functional portfolio company teams.
  • Partner with the firm's deal team and portfolio company finance, operations, and IT teams to understand the data needs of portfolio companies and provide effective solutions.
  • Assist with implementation, and management of data warehouses or other data management solutions that ensure seamless access to critical business data from all relevant sources.
  • Assist with design, development, and maintenance of interactive and actionable PowerBI dashboards and other high-impact analyses.
  • Optimize existing data structure / tables and ensure data is clean, structured, and accessible for decision-making, financial analysis, and reporting purposes.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline reporting processes, automate data collection, and improve efficiency in accessing key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Assist with the development and enforcement of data governance and best practices for data handling and reporting.
  • Build capabilities and help drive continual technical and functional improvement of business users and IT personnel through training, knowledge transfer, and day-to-day issue resolution.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for data sources, PowerBI dashboards, and data pipelines to ensure long-term sustainability and knowledge transfer.
Core Competencies:
  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in computer science, information technology, and/or finance/accounting.
  • Experience with utilization and implementation of cloud-based data warehousing solutions such as Snowflake, Redshift, or Azure Synapse.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform data ETL (Extract, Transform and Load) and modeling utilizing SQL, Alteryx, PowerBI and other technologies.
  • Experience with data visualization tools (Power BI preferred)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify opportunities and challenges.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills to effectively engage with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Self-starter who stays current with emerging trends in data architecture and technology process tools to make recommendations to portfolio companies and firm deal team members as needed.
Qualifications:
  • 3-5 years of experience in database management, data analytics and business intelligence role in consulting or private equity-backed corporate environment.
  • Certifications in database programming (e.g. Oracle, MS SQL Server, etc.), cloud technology platforms (e.g. AWS, Azure, GCP, etc.), and/or data visualization tools (e.g. PowerBI, Tableau).
  • Experience with modern big data approaches (e.g. PySpark, Apache Spark, Azure Databricks, Azure SQL, Azure ML, R, Python, Java, etc.) and / or basic programming (e.g. Python, R, SQL, Matlab, C++, etc.) is a plus.
  • Proven ability to analyze complex data and translate it into actionable insights that drive strategy and decision-making.
  • Previous experience working in a private equity-backed, growth company environment or exposure to private equity from a consulting perspective is a plus.
