ASSISTANT CONTROLLER HYBRID (3 days in office, 2 remote)
POSITION SUMMARY

Newly created Assistant Controller role available for a public $8.5 billion company on the west/southwest side of Houston. After an initial training period, your schedule will be hybrid.

Working closely with the CAO and Corporate Controller, this role will be responsible for the accounting and reporting for a large manufacturing division. You will manage the general ledger accounting for the division’s purchasing, sales, and inventories for raw goods. You will also work closely with the logistics group and help manage the transportation of the raw and final products. This role also leads cross-functional activities associated with the accounting function's shared services (e.g., accounts payable, and billings), corporate accounting, asset accounting, and SEC reporting groups.

You will manage a team of 10 (a mix of on and off-site employees) and will serve as a mentor/coach to your team and advise the CAO and Corporate Controller on technical matters. Additionally, you will help spearhead a process improvement project to help strip out any manual processes.

The company offers a competitive salary plus 40-60% STI and 40-60% LTIP.

REQUIREMENTS
 
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required.
  • A master’s degree in accounting or business administration is a plus.
  • CPA is required.
  • 12+ years of accounting and financial reporting experience required.
  • Demonstrated deep knowledge of US GAAP is required, including the ability to assist with or document technical position papers, as needed.
  • Experience leading teams of 10+ is preferred.
  • Process improvement and system redesign efforts are desired.
  • Experience in SOX and internal controls is required.
  • Strong executive presence.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
  • Ability to drive results at all levels of the organization.
  • Willingness and ability to occasionally travel.

RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  • Oversight of, and direct involvement in, the accounting functions associated with the company’s manufacturing, marketing, and logistics operations, including field accounting processes. This includes all aspects of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, reconciliations, and basic reporting functions associated with general ledger management, and external and internal audit management.
  • Develop and maintain a strong, positive relationship with the front office, middle office, and other operational groups to meet objectives.
  • Responsible for timely identification of technical matters within areas of responsibility and communication of such matters to the CAO, engagement of internal technical accounting resources, if needed, and implementation of any resulting process, system or documentation changes required.
  • Lead his/her areas of responsibility through cross-functional efforts, including special projects, recurring analysis and reporting, and budgeting and forecasting, to support organizational objectives.
  • Direct and monitor all third-party relationships applicable to areas of responsibility.
  • Responsible for monthly and quarterly analytics of financial statements for the manufacturing, marketing, and logistics operations in support of other accounting and finance groups' deliverables.
  • Responsible for the timely and accurate completion and delivery of key operational and financial reporting for areas of responsibility to internal stakeholders.
  • Manage the development of schedules and related support for external reporting needs.
  • Manage the audit and review procedures for areas of responsibility and provide information as needed to independent auditors and internal auditors.
  • Compliance and adherence to controls for SOX 404, including being a significant control and process owner. Ensure that individuals in the business are developed and understand their responsibilities under SOX 404.
  • Lead, with the support of the Chief Accounting Officer, evaluation of current and potential business and system processes associated with the manufacturing, marketing, and logistics operations.
  • Set measurable objectives and goals for the accounting team.
