Growing Houston-based company, located in Southwest Houston, energy and retail company seeks a strong Assistant Controller due to growth.

About the Job:

The Assistant Controller will work to prepare timely and accurate financial reports and renders advice & assistance to management teams regarding the company’s financial affairs.  In addition, the Assistant Controller is responsible for direction and guidance for all company retail accounting functions, in accordance with company and GAAP guidelines.  The Assistant Controller will work directly with the Senior Director of Finance to drive operational financial performance.  Directs and leads the accounting department.  Ensure that the company assets are properly safeguarded.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Prepares financial statements to summarize and forecast the company’s financial status.
  • Responsible for month-end and year-end close procedures
  • Produces and manages balance sheets and analyze future earnings and expenses.
  • Assists with management of accounting, auditing, and budgeting within the organization.
  • Assists with preparations for audits.
  • Cash forecasting preparation as well oversee the weekly & monthly vendor payments.
  • Oversees A/R Collections from select direct billed customers.
  • Responsible for balance sheet reconciliations as well banking and credit card reconciliations.
  • Ensures compliance with and prepare reports according to applicable government regulations.
  • Uses accounting software to maintain records and prepare reports.
  • Coordinates with and prepares reports for upper management.
  • Participates in capital planning and payment tracking/forecasting of projects.
  • Lead process improvement and automation efforts for Accounting functions.
  • Backup to Payroll and A/P.

  • Solid experience in balance sheet and bank reconciliations required.
  • Solid understanding of GAAP and applicable regulations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Detail oriented and highly organized.
  • Skilled in time management and the ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to work in an unstructured environment and ability to set up scalable accounting organization that can expand as the company grows.

Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
  • Master’s degree is a plus.
  • 5-8 years of experience.
  • CPA preferred.
  • Advanced Excel.
  • QuickBooks Online required.

Reports to: Senior Director of Finance

Supervises: Accounts Payable Lead
