ACCOUNTING SUPERVISOR, OPERATIONS
HYBRID (3 days in office, 2 remote)

POSITION SUMMARY

Large, international energy company needs a Manager of Operational Accounting.

The incumbent’s accountabilities will include: review journal entries, account reconciliations, cash flow and income/expense forecasts and preparation of management reports. This position will work closely with the operating business unit managers to ensure timely identification and resolution of financial issues and develop procedures and controls that are effective and efficient. This position is responsible for the accounting and reporting for certain aspects of the commercial components of the company's business units.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required
  • Master’s Degree or Professional Accounting
  • CPA is not required, but strongly preferred

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • 6+ years of experience in accounting related field required, with preference to years of experience in accounting for commercial activities in a downstream energy environment
  • 3+ years of experience in inventory accounting desired
  • 3+ years of supervisory and/or leadership experience preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of GAAP, Sarbanes-Oxley, and internal controls required
  • Demonstrated strong analytical and problem solving skills required
  • Exceptional Excel spreadsheet skills required and experience with a large ERP desired
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Day-to-day management of the accounting functions associated with the commercial activities within his/her area of responsibility associated with the company's refining and marketing business. This includes all aspects of the monthly, quarterly and annual close processes, reconciliations and basic reporting functions associated with general ledger management, external and internal audit management.
  • Develop and maintain a strong, positive relationship with the front office, middle office and other operational groups to meet objectives.
  • Integral in the timely identification of technical matters within areas of responsibility and communication of such matters to his/her Director or peers, engagement of internal technical accounting resources, if needed, and implementation of any resulting process, system or documentation changes required.
  • Lead his/her areas of responsibility through cross-functional efforts, including special projects, recurring analysis and reporting, and budgeting and forecasting, in support of organizational objectives.
  • Direct and monitor all third-party relationships applicable to areas of responsibility.
  • Integral in the preparation and/or review of monthly and quarterly analytics of financial statements for the commercial activities associated with the company's refining and marketing business within his/her area of responsibility in support of other accounting and finance groups' deliverables.
  • Responsible for the timely and accurate completion and delivery of key operational and financial reporting for areas of responsibility to internal stakeholders. Manage the development of schedules and related support for external reporting needs.
  • Manage the audit and review procedures for areas of responsibility and provide information as needed to independent auditors and internal auditors.
  • Ensure compliance and adherence to controls for SOX 404, including being a significant control and process owner. Ensure that individuals in the business are developed and understand their responsibilities under SOX 404.
  • Assist, with the support of his/her Director, evaluation of current and potential business and system processes associated with the refining, marketing and logistics operations.
  • Responsible for the oversight and development of the accounting staff within his/her area of responsibility.
  • Ensure compliance and provide assistance to the corporate tax department with all taxing and regulatory bodies as they apply to areas within his/her area of responsibility.
